The Angina Pectoris is a German gothic rock band from Stuttgart
The band emerged in 1990 from the synth-pop oriented project "Feu Ma Mere", which was founded by the musicians Joelen Mingi and Alexander Klaffke in the second half of the 80s. Shortly thereafter, Shay Astray, Mingi's long-time partner, joined the band. In 1990 the first record deal with KM-Music / Semaphone was signed.
The band appeared in the early 1990s with bands such as Arts & Decay and The Fair Sex. In 1991, Odium was released as the first single. In the same year the piece Disconsolate on Zillos German Mystic Sound Sampler Volume II made the band known to a wider audience. The piece The Agony After, which was released on Zillo's first Romantic Sound Sampler in autumn 1991, is a false attribution. The title actually comes from the (only) Feu Ma Mere album Seasons of Mournful (1989). He is still considered one of the band's best known to this day.
Before the debut album Anno Domini was released in 1992 and the band went on a promotional tour, Sin Feissali (guitar) became a permanent member of the band. Feissali had already toured Germany with The Angina Pectoris in 1991. With On the Burning Funeral Pyre a mini album was released in 1993, which is also the last one published by KM-Music / Semaphone. A contract was then signed with SPV GmbH. Tour '93 was also the most successful of the band, with several headline appearances at various festivals. In the same year, however, the band left Sin Feissali to form their own group, as well as "Erzulie" - the drum computer. The guitar part was taken over by Anthony Abzu, the band's live technician, and the drums were played by the Irish Martyn Lynch.
In 1994, Anguish released their first and last album on SPV and the band went on tour, which made their first stop abroad. A new contract was signed with the legendary Hamburg record label AMV / Public Propaganda. Martyn Lynch left the band in 1995 due to musical differences and was replaced by Mingi's long-time friend Cliff Hill, ex-member of the American band Shock Therapy. In 1996 The Angina Pectoris went on a big tour of Germany again to promote the new album Insomnia. After this tour, however, the longstanding relationship between Joelen Mingi and Shay Astray broke. As a consequence, Astray not only quit her job, but retired entirely from the music business. The band was then restructured by Mingi and realigned creatively.
The band's lineup has been expanded to produce more powerful music. Antony Abzu gave up the guitar part and took over the technical management. From 1997 the band no longer performed publicly and worked in a quasi-isolated manner on a new album.
Dying Heart was released in 1999 as an unofficial CD single that only selected fans got. The first appearance in two years took place as a "headliner" of a festival in the Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg. In January 2000 the CD single Mandy was released from the new album Lakshmi. Five months later the world tour started, which led through Europe and Asia and was supported by various sponsors, such as B. Channel-V TV, Channel 4, Hammer Magazine, Gothic Magazine, NewsZine, Oblivion, Powermetal.de. In 2001 the Lakshmi album was released and the second part of the world tour was undertaken, which ended in Germany on December 15th.
