ShyWolf evolved through the years, beginning with Phil Toone. At 17 Phil formed his own band called "Spoonfull" (1976). The band had considerable success with their single "Troubled Times" (Pye Records), and indeed were recognised as the No.1 rock band in the Midlands.
Alas, to the fans' disappointment, the band split in 1979. In early 1980 Phil was persuaded by "Big Bear" records of Birmingham to reform the band with an offer of a slot on a live LP. The LP was to be called "Live at the Barrel Organ".
The new line up was also to include bass player and vocalist, Steve Littlewood. The band was later renamed "Blitz", who went on to support "Budgie" and "The Tom Robinson Band" in 1981.
"Blitz" then became "ShyWolf" in with the addition of Jay Melbourne. Jay was an instant success with Phil Toone and Steve Littlewood and in 1982 the band hit the road under the new name of ShyWolf, which coincided with the release of their single Lucretia/California Jam.
