French black metal from Canada.
Hm! Thank you for sharing this, and for the recommendation, diegocereal.
Sounds to me like a technical, epic mix of Heavy (Power) Metal from the 70's, some Doom, and Black Folk Metal.
The group has a solid sound, rich & full, they play well; music difficult to fit into one genre. Strong melodic guitar with distortion/effects that remind me of very old heavy metal - Sabbath, Purple, or Zeppelin type of sound; solid percussion, a lot of choral-type harmonized vocals, and generally a lively pace with complex track arrangements, intricate bridges & engaging lead guitar solo work. Some synth also arrives at several points through the album, but this is not synth/sympho metal. There's also a weird, dischordant little jazz piece in there, which sounds like it fell out of a Pink Panther episode from 1945, melded with some frantic BM pounding.
Lyrics are in French; vocals both solo & harmonized, straddling styles of black metal, punk, & folk metal, and are a key componenet - not just singing & lyrics, but an instrument unto themselves, without which, the experience would be quite different.
I like it; lively, interesting, and enjoyable!
Bin hâte d'écouter ça!
Hi. Thank you for such a detailed analysis. I recommended the band because I genuinely found it very interesting. The whole theme of this album revolves around the former Prime Minister of Canada, Maurice Duplessis. Not surprisingly, they created an atmosphere in the songs that strongly evokes politics and war — I found it amazing!
Canada is not France mate
