http://www.myspace.com/guttedhordeGábor Drótos - guitars, backing vocals Sándor Hajnali - vocalsAt the very first beginning we were Genocide.We recorded 2 demos with that name - Grinding 1996, Vilification 1998.These material were death metal but in a primitiv composition.Not well recorded simple music.We played some shows in Hungary supporting these demos and to tell you the truth we were given good reactions from the fans!In 1999 our founding guitarist left us and we've decided to change our name to Gutted.So we went on as a 4 members band trying to find a new guitarist but we could not.In 2000 we won the 2nd place on a Talented Artists Competition and we were given 60 studio hours which was used for the recording of our promo cd.We were looking for labels with that cd when the Japanese Eclipse rec.found us with a deal for our debut cd.Our first full length - Defiled - came out in 2001.Since then our second guitarist left us too and he was replaced by two new ones.At least we have 2 guitar players as at the beginning of our existence.

Debut full length album from Gutted was released three years ago. How did it happen that the band from Hungary signed a deal with label from Japan?!?! Didn't you have any other offers - for example: from European labels? What were the reasons that "Defiled" saw the light of day thanks to Hitoshi from Eclipse Rec.? Do you know how many copies of this material have been sold?
.It was surprised us when we got a snail mail from Japan.He has had a magazine which included an interview with us and a cd review of our promo cd.He was very interesting in Gutted and when we sent him our promo cd he became a real Gutted fan immediately!By the way, we dind't get any other offers but from him!We saw that he has a real good distribution all around the world so there was no anything which could kept from us from the releasingof our debut cd!Unfortunatelly, I don't know anything about the selling.I think we sold around 1000 copies or maybe less.Ask Eclipse about this business!He-he!
What was the response to your first album in Hungary and in other countries? Did you answer many interviews, played more shows? Are you satisfied from this album now?
Defiled was welcomed good at every places.Some said that is a masterpiece, some complained about the sound of it.As you can see I still give answers to this day!He-he!Seriously, I've got a lot of questions during the 3 years from all around the world!We've played on the most famous Hungarian festivals and got to some foreign countries like Serbia, Czech Republic and Germany.We are not satisfied with our debut's sound because we think that is too thin.We wanna record a more brutal album with a more brutal sound if you understand what I mean.We have 2 guitar players so we will take advantage of this possibility at all!
In the previous question I mentioned about scene in Hungary and I'd like to know something more about extreme metal in your country. Do you have professional labels, concerts agencies? What is your personal opinion about their job and other activities?

Our underground life is quite small and empty.There is no webzine, magazine, label for the death metal scene.We have webzines but they support the every kinds of metal genre.Our concert agencies organize gigs for all.Our death metal underground is a far cry from yours!The main problem is that we have no a real big name or two.As in your country Vader, Decapitated etc.We have a Soulfly clone working on Nuclear Blast - Ektomorf - maybe their fair name can make this country more recognized.Hungary didin't raise up old shool death metal bands whom could work for a foreign label and making tours all around Europe.We have had some cool bands around 1995-96 but their lifes were very short.They gave up before the aim!It was just a kindling!Now some good bands working on a foreign label and making gigs abroad so maybe this age-group can change the status of our underground in the eye of the world!
Could you recommend us some killer Hungarian bands? I mean… which of them are the most popular, played lots of tours and released few albums since the day when they started? I know that it can be probably a little bit hard question but… what is the Gutted status on Hungarian metal scene? Moreover, I'm sure there are some legendary bands in Hungary, as well as for example: Kat in Poland, Citron in Czech, Korosija Metalla in Russia…
As I said in my previous answer, Ektomorf is working for Nuclear Blast so they are the most popular metal band of my country.They make a whola lot of tours and festival appearances!Nevertheless I can enumerate some killer bands whom pretty known names in the world's underground scene.Without fear or favour: Depths of Depravity /death metal,US vein/, Masquim Xul / death metal,US vein/, Casketgarden /melodic death like At The Gates/, Tesstimony / slow death metal /,Malediction / swedish death metal /.About our status?What can I say?I think we have a good place on the ladder of hungarian death metal scene.I don't wanna be pompous but we can say that Gutted is the most brutal band of Hungary!We will prove this statement in your country soon!He-he!I hope!Legendary bands?We got one called Tormentor.I'm not sure about their present life but I know that their vocalist - Attila Csihar - worked with Mayhem.He lived in Norway for a while.If I know well.Tormentor is a black metal band and released an album for Avantgarde Rec. around 3-4 years ago.That was their latest one.Plus we got some real heavy metal bands singing in Hungarian language only.They rule the whole metal scene in this country!Sold more than 6 - 7000 copies in Hungary only!They are our real veterans!He-he!

Are you interested in worldwide underground scene? Are you in contact with lots of bands, magazines, labels from different parts of the world? What about Poland? Do you enjoy polish bands?
I try to keep track of the whole underground scene but it is a hard job because there are a lot of good bands working on this planet nowadays!I'm interested in every styles of the metal music!After the releasing of our debut I have had some chances to contact good bands from all around and I try to keep on them.My first encounter with your scene was the first Vader album.I liked it hardly!I watched a video clip on the TV and I enjoyed it so i got their tape rapidly!It is hard pick bands up from your scene because there are a lot of them!Your country is like a Florida on this continet!He-he!Maybe more stronger!I think if there's a band which came from your country has an easier position at the beginning.Don't you think?Everyone whom working in this scene know that your country has a lot of promising bands and they are given a bigger chance from everywhere.In my opinion, the Polish underground death metal scene is one of the most reconized on this planet!I can't wait to destroy it at all!!!He-he!
Gutted participated in Obscene Extreme Fest this year and in many opinions you did very good show! What are your recollections from OEF 2004? Have you ever been on OEF before 2004? What would you like to say to maniacs and bands which have never been to Obscene Extreme Fest?

OEF is the best Festival we've ever been on!You know we played on the most famous Hungarian fests but that's different!OEF is a place we are belonging to!Cool bands from every corner of the world!It was a pleasure to share the stage with bands like: Wasteform, Brodequin, Extreme Noise Terror etc…!I hope we will have a chance to play there in the near future!To the bands whom never play there: try to find out how could you play there!It is worth it!!!To the maniacs: visit this paradise of death - grind - gore madness!
From what I know, you are currently very busy and working on the second full length album. I heard that Nice To Eat You Rec. - the label owned by Vlad from Fleshless will release the next Gutted album. How did it happen that your band signed to NTEY? Do your visit in Trutnov led to this contract in some way? By the way, didn't you receive a deal offer from Hitoshi for the new album?
Your informations are correct!We are hardly working on our second album which will be released in the beginning of 2005 on Nice To Eat You Records!We will enter the studio in Nov. here in Székesfehérvár!When NTEY was found we got an offer from Vladimir for our second cd but we didn't accept it.Don't ask it why!I don't know!Then we met him on OEF this year and talked about this business personally so no we are belonging to his label!He was very conclusive!Eclipse was interesting in our 2nd cd but we wanted more from a label like a simple distribution.We could not record an album without Hitoshi's support and we would be nothing without him!We wish him the best!
Vlad is taking care about his bands. He makes good promotion and shows in Europe. What are the Gutted expectations? Do you have some tours/shows plans?

You can see it cleary!NTEY is a very good - working label!Vladimir cares about his bands a lot!The main reason that we left Eclipse was the lack of the gigs organizing!An album can't sell itself by itself!You have to make gigs all around in Europe to get a higher selling!You can't download the experience of a live show from the internet so far!Vladimir knows what a band needs!He is playing in a brutal band as well and know a lot of people personaly from all around.Our first foreign shows were organized by him!We don't expect anything special from him!I hope that we will able to work together as good friends!Maybe we will have some tours with some amazing bands!The time will tell!
