Netherlands' black thrash. Interesting.  {#dirol.gif}

1994... Occult - a good name; and would have been a good name for the first album; the vocals actually are somewhat occult, i.e. hidden, difficult to detect. I thought this album was instrumental, until I listened closely and heard the whispered vocals. Nice music, not exactly typical thrash metal, but it's thrashy, and a bit black metally, good guitar playing and adequate percussion; I like it well enough.

1996... Aha, here we have a cool mix of black metal and thrash, mostly identifiable as such. Great sound from this team, the musicians are quite capable. Drumming is solid, speed is good, vocals are hearable; generally more torque, over the previous album. Cool !!  Just what we're in the mood for.

1999... Not bad, it's reasonably thrashy, but the vocals for some tracks are not appealing to me; I think I preferred the two earlier albums' sound, especially in the vocal department. This album is a bit more sinister, however, and has a little extra crunch & evil in the guitar playing. Sound quality is good! Looking forward to next album.

2001... There are two vocalists working together; I like the deep growly one, but not the other one much. Otherwise, this album is thrashy, crunchy, noxious - all the good stuff is here, and the pace has increased slightly. Lead guitar solos are also on the rise here, as they were in the previous album. Speedy, evil, heavy & thrashy; pretty good. More later...

2003... Starting off with potent torque, solid heaviness. And maybe this vocalist is improving, or I dislike him a bit less. Vocals here sound more like they belong, versus earlier, they seemed.. like the group was struggling to find a vocalist, which may also be why the earliest album had actual whispered vocals? Anyway, this last album is very good, on its own or compared to the others. Quite heavy, fast & thrashy, lots of double bass, chuggy crunchy guitars, great sound quality. The transition from track #4 to #5 was... well, I thought something blew up in here. Cool. \m/ {#dirol.gif}

I'll enjoy this discography again, definitely; it's not going to the top of the favorites section, but it's going in there somewhere. Maybe I'll come to like the 3rd & 4th albums more, in time; they're fine, sure; maybe they just didn't sit right this time around. Might have been the vocals. {#agree.gif}
