The biggest change happened by the end of the 70s with forming of the new wave of England's Heavy Metal. In the beginning of the 80s a lot of bands were increasing the speed and aggressiveness of their sound, thus unknowingly creating new trends in metal. That is how was created more melodic Speed Metal which later became Power Metal and more extreme genre by the name of Thrash Metal. Thrash metal became the most popular genre and later grew while constantly expanding and evolving.
